Jump-Starting the Economy
Broward County Energy Training Partnership project seeks to stimulate the economy by providing family supporting jobs for the many unemployed, underemployed, and skilled workers in construction trade within Broward County, Florida. Target participants consist of ex-offenders, veterans, minorities, women, and other job seekers, as well as skilled under-employed and unemployed electricians, plumbers and other construction workers in need of employment or new skills.
This project will train targeted participants in the energy efficient building construction and retrofit industries and renewable electric power industry. This comprehensive strategy builds on existing work in order to expeditiously begin and expand training. Altogether, 1000 persons will be enrolled, 900 will be trained and 700 will be placed in jobs as Solar Thermal System Designer and Installer (50); Solar PV System Designer and Installer - Skilled (50); Solar PV System Installer - Entry Level (225); Weatherization Technicians and Installers (300); and Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate (75).
After successfully transitioning from start-up to implementation phase before the end of the 2nd quarter, the 3rd quarter was specifically focused on engaging and enrolling unemployed and underemployed job seekers, engaging and enrolling employed persons needing skills upgrades to keep their jobs, and establishing additional partnerships with potential employers to help secure jobs for graduates. Specifically, we engage public officials and construction project owners, and other key stakeholders in green construction industries.

The Grand Opening of the Green Ready Institute:
The Green Jobs Expo and Training Recruitment Fair, attracted over 450 community members. Over 40 Exhibitors showcased their goods and services; with over 10 offering jobs.
This Green Initiative exposed South Floridians to current, future and possible employment and economic development resources in the Green Jobs Industry.
The Expo attracted job seekers, contractors, builders, small businesses, homeowners, community leaders and elected officials interested in increasing profit, developing people, and improving the planet..
