On September 10, 2010 BCMBC, through the South Florida Green Jobs Training Collaborative supported and participated in the Grand Opening of the Green Ready Institute; South Florida’s premier training program for Green Jobs.

The Grand Opening of the Green Ready Institute:

  • Showcased the Green Ready Institute’s training program.
  • Emphasized the scope and benefits of trainings offered through the South Florida Green Jobs Training Collaborative to increase public appreciation for program graduates.
  • Highlighted project partners and increased awareness of the availability of Green Jobs trainings.
  • Underlined the economic impact of Green Jobs.
  • Engaged potential employers in adapting practices that support and increase jobs and projects in energy-efficient building construction and retrofit industries as well as within the renewable electric power industries.
On October 14th, 2010 the South Florida Green Jobs Collaborative hosted the first of four Summits committed to stimulating green   jobs in South Florida.

The Green Jobs Expo and Training Recruitment Fair, attracted over 450 community members.  Over 40 Exhibitors showcased their goods and services; with over 10 offering jobs.

This Green Initiative exposed South Floridians to current, future and possible employment and economic development resources in the Green Jobs Industry.

The Expo attracted job seekers, contractors, builders, small businesses, homeowners, community leaders and elected officials interested in increasing profit, developing people, and improving the planet..

Legislators and Local Experts provided presentations on:

  • Green Policy Development for Sustainability
  • Green Jobs, Stimulating Our Economy- Current Trends
  • Becoming a Certified Business- Categories, Advantages and Disadvantages
  • Rebates and Incentives for Greener Homes and Businesses
  • Women in Green
  • Green Mortgages-How and Why
  • Greener Skills, National Standards and Local Jobs
  • Building the Solar Industry in the Sunshine State
  • Green Jobs and a Greener Faith Community
  • Bonding for Small Businesses:  Resources to Compete in the Green Economy
  • 21st Century Building:  LEED Commissioning and Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Services are provided to Broward County residents.
While there is no income restriction, priority is given to the handicapped and low-income persons. Workers are background screened and insured and are skilled and/or certified professionals.
The Community Improvment Programs provide a five-year deferred payment loan for improving and maintaining owner occupied housing to correct code violations, prevent further deterioration, and stop the loss of energy and infiltration of outside elements.
By reducing the energy bills of low-income families instead of offering aid, weatherization reduces dependency and liberates household income for spending on more pressing family issues.

This program helps low-income families to:

  • Determine eligibility for weatherization assistance
  • Determine the efficiency of their home through an energy audit
  • Determine the most cost-effective weatherization measures for each home or dwelling
  • Install energy efficiency measures, worth an average of $6,500
